[openal] alcOpenDevice( 0 ) taking over a minute to return (suddenly)

For no apparent reason, having been happily building and running our game for over a year, alcOpenDevice(0) has suddenly started taking a minute or more to return (successfully) on my machine, which makes developing something of a chore. Any ideas? I haven’t made any modifications to the hardware, or any significant changes to the software.
